Made with dates, seeds and vegan protein powder, these bliss balls make the perfect guilt-free healthy treat or pre-workout snack to satisfy a sweet tooth or chocolate craving.
As you know I like to create recipes not only for taste but for a purpose, nutritionally speaking. So I created these as a pre-workout snack using a base of seeds which are packed with zinc and protein. I also used a vegan protein powder blend so these protein balls are vegan friendly.
Zinc is essential for growth and repair of muscles (needed for protein synthesis). It is also used for hormonal and reproductive health in both men and women, proper functioning of the immune system and metabolism. Zinc is essential in over 300 enzyme reactions in the body. It can assist with weight loss through appetite and digestion, help reduce stress, healing for acne and wounds, and prevention of colds, as well as other important functions.
Fit Protein Balls
1 tbls organic cacao powder
1/2 cup (unsweetened) desiccated coconut, plus extra for rolling
1 scoop vegan protein powder (I use PranaON Power Plant Protein)
1/2 cup water
Blend all ingredients in a food processor until sticky. Roll into balls, dust with extra coconut and set in the fridge for at least an hour before enjoying!
